Child Therapy

Child Therapy

Child therapy is focused on the psychological needs of children. Just as with adults, there are times when children need the help of a qualified counselor.

A qualified child therapist understands the developmental needs of children and is able to recognize signs that show the need for additional support.  They are specifically trained on evidence-based treatment methods for children.  There are a number of different ways to help children process and deal with emotions.  A child’s communication is mainly non-verbal which means the counselor will use different methods to connect, such as activities, unstructured play, and games. Using these methods allows the counselor to understand the specific needs of the child and determine the best course of counseling.

The type of therapy to be used often depends on the child and the therapist.  It could be Play Therapy, Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), Social Skills Training, Trauma-Focused Therapies, Grief Counseling and Family Therapy or a combination of these.

Child therapy works on the following five goals:  Build Self Esteem, Help Improve Communication, Stimulate Development, Build an Emotional Repertoire, and Improve the Emotional Vocabulary.  Our goal is to have your child grow in a healthy and happy environment in which parent and child will flourish.
